DT

Pupils at QE2 School are given the opportunity to explore DT practically, and in meaningful ways inside and outside of the classroom and school environment. It is important to ensure that students are able to apply their practical skills in a creative way, working towards increased problem solving, creativity, application and independence- which is what DT as a subject promotes at QE2. It is important that students experience the process which leads to an end product.

The school’s curriculum, through Cornerstones, gives the students the students the opportunity to study DT within their topic, as well as the wider curriculum, for example through Art and Design, Forest Schools and Continuous Provision. These opportunities continue to support the students to practice their practical skills to show the impact through their Earwig Q Level assessment.

All of our pupils are encouraged to investigate and understand the world around them, so DT is taught in a whole class format and in small groups, for example whole class cooking and forest schools sessions, as well as small sixth form groups going to the local Butterfly Project provision for wood work. Skills are built on throughout the pupil’s school journey at QE2 school and targeted to meet their individual needs.
