Here are a few photos of what we've been up to.

Artist in Residence Morning

Each student looked at a mirror to look at facial features to try and create a resemblance of themselves onto a lantern. Michelle Dufaur was the visiting artist. As you can see from the photos, they had great fun and created awesome lanterns.

Oaks have embarked on a Recycled Garden project this half term. Students have engaged in collecting items to recycle, such as old library seats, pallets, unused garden paints, plates and old tiles. This work has introduced students to new skills such as measuring & sewing andusing tools like Stanley knives & electric sanders.
Every student has been involved in each section, from designing to applying varnish. "This is like my Dad" said one student. Others were very nervous at using electric tools, but with lots of reassurance from staff everyone achieved the goal!
I'm sure you will agree the project has been very successful.

Recycled Garden Furniture

Oaks students have made garden furniture from old pallets, reclaimed china and curtains. The tables have been mosaiced and the sofas built, sanded and varnished in their weekly art lessons.

Garden Mural

As you can see, students from Oaks and Firs have created an awesome garden mural made from recycled plastic lids. It is now up in Oaks' garden for everyone to enjoy.
Students have been able to experience several skills old and new. Some have very much embraced using a power drill or a saw, while others enjoyed painting accurately and sorting the coloured lids.
I believe everyone involved thoroughly enjoyed taking part and I am very proud of all of the students.

Life Cycle of Bugs and Creatures

Oaks and Firs students have been looking at the life cycle of bugs and creatures. For the first half of the Autumn 2020 term they have been creating a mural which shows the "Life Cycle of a Butterfly."

It's not just a painted mural! The students have been creative by using plastic tops such and milk and cold drink lids! Each lid has been strategically placed with glue and then individually screwed into position. It has been fantastic to watch the mural develop.

When finished, this will be up in the garden for everyone to enjoy.
